Announcing LEC-PERC Joint Program on Economics, Law, and the Environment
The Law & Economics Center (LEC), George Mason University School of Law, Arlington, Virginia, and PERC, Bozeman, Montana, are pleased to announce the creation of the LEC-PERC Joint Program on Economics, Law, and the Environment. Building on LEC’s tradition of bringing rigorous economic analysis to the law and on PERC’s tradition of doing the same for environmental policy, this joint program will combine the best of both centers by integrating economics, law, and the environment.
The mission of the Joint Program is to provide professors of environmental law and related fields with a view of environmental policy through the lenses of property rights and political economy.
The LEC-PERC Joint Program on Economics, Law, and the Environment will conduct two annual events: the “LEC-PERC Workshop on Environmental Economics for Law Professors” and the “LEC-PERC Research Roundtable on Applications of Economics to Environmental Law and Policy.”
The “LEC-PERC Workshop on Environmental Economics for Law Professors” will bring together law professors from across the country for a three-day event designed to teach the basic principles of economics and how to apply those principles to a variety of topics taught in environmental, natural resource, and property law courses. The first of these will be held October 2–6, 2013, in Big Sky, Montana.
Six to eight economics and law scholars will be commissioned to write papers for each “LEC-PERC Research Roundtable on Applications of Economics to Environmental Law and Policy.” These papers will be focused on a topic of mutual interest to authors and discussants with a goal of encouraging publishable research applicable to the Joint Program’s mission. The first of these roundtables will be the “LEC-PERC Workshop on Environmental Federalism” and will be held October 17–20, 2013, at Case Western Reserve University.
