Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed on a bipartisan vote the critical Fix Our Forests Act. Co-sponsored by Representative Scott Peters (D, CA) and Chairman Bruce Westerman (R, AR), the act would slash red tape that holds up forest restoration projects; promote collaboration and partnerships to conduct restoration work; and deter frivolous lawsuits that delay essential projects.
In response to the House passage, PERC shared the following statement:
“Wildfires have burned through landscapes larger than Nevada in the past decade. The Fix Our Forests Act finally gives us the tools to fight back. Proactive forest restoration, supported by bipartisan cooperation and streamlined regulations, is not just necessary—it is imperative. The stakes are clear: Lives, communities, and ecosystems depend on our ability to act. We are grateful to Chairman Bruce Westerman and Representative Scott Peters for their leadership on this critical issue.”
