2025 Summer Internships
Our internship program is designed to give current and recent undergraduates a firm understanding of what a career in conservation can achieve. If you’re passionate about the outdoors and want to jump start your career, consider applying today.
The PERC Summer Intern Program is a 10-week paid experiential learning program that offers participants first-hand experience working on the cutting-edge of conservation.
Throughout the program, you’ll engage with seasoned professionals dedicated to improving the way we conserve land, water, and wildlife. You’ll hear from leading researchers, and have the opportunity to work alongside passionate individuals who love the outdoors and want to make an impact.
Interns will work in one of our key departments, with an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding across all aspects of PERC’s work:
Your PERC summer internship includes:
- A hands-on experience developing a deep understanding of the department you choose, driving key projects to completion over the course of the summer.
- Cross-department learning with other participants to develop a robust background knowledge of PERC’s broader work and focus.
- The chance to hear from leading researchers, academics, and scholars during our summer workshop presentations.
- An opportunity to visit PERC’s field projects, such as our elk occupancy agreements and virtual fence projects.
- Ongoing engagement and mentorship opportunities from PERC’s team to help guide you in your career and personal growth.
- A bi-weekly stipend of $1200 for full time (40hrs) per week.
- The unique opportunity to spend your summer in glorious Big Sky Country where you can hike, fish, bike, and experience some of the best outdoors in the country!

Research Internship
PERC’s Research Department explores innovative, market-based solutions to environmental challenges, using economics and policy analysis to promote conservation. We’re seeking a research intern to support our mission through research assistance, data collection, and policy analysis. Key responsibilities include summarizing reports and academic studies, organizing and analyzing data for ongoing projects, and contributing to the preparation of policy briefs and research publications. The ideal candidate will have strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a keen interest in environmental policy and conservation issues. This position is best suited for students majoring in economics, political science, public policy, environmental science, or related fields.
Policy Internship
PERC’s Law and Policy Center advances policy reforms that respect property rights, expand incentives for voluntary stewardship, and empower people to advance conservation through markets. We work at the state and federal levels by engaging leading conservation organizations, policymakers, and elected leaders to establish real-world results. We’re looking for a proactive intern to help us advance good conservation policies through government relations, coalition management, and policy research. Key responsibilities include tracking policy proposals, drafting memos, and helping shape government relations strategies. The ideal candidate will have an interest in the political process, strong writing skills, and a passion for conservation. The position is best suited for students majoring in political science, public policy, economics, or related fields.
Legal Reforms and Challenges Internship
PERC’s Law and Policy Center advances legal work and policy reforms that respect property rights, expand incentives for voluntary stewardship, and empower people and states to advance conservation through markets. We work at the state and federal levels by filing impactful litigation and amicus briefs, engaging in the administrative law process, and working with leading conservation organizations and policymakers to achieve real-world results. We’re looking for a proactive intern to help us advance fact-based and incentive-driven conservation policies through work in the courtroom, administrative process, and legislature. Key responsibilities include legal research, drafting legal briefs, administrative comments, and memos, and helping advance conservation policies. The ideal candidate will have an interest in natural resources and conservation law and policy, strong writing and legal research skills, and a passion for conservation policy rooted in incentives and preserving private property rights. This position is open for current law students.
Conservation Innovation Internship
PERC’s Conservation Innovation Lab works in partnership with agricultural producers, conservation groups, and others to pilot and share innovative approaches to land, water, and wildlife conservation. We are seeking a dynamic intern to support our mission through fieldwork, mapping, and project analysis. Key responsibilities may include assisting with fence building or removal, site visits, building and maintaining maps of projects, helping with project management functions and project tracking, and developing research guides to assess projects. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, a passion for the outdoors, and a willingness to think outside the box. The position is best suited for students majoring in Natural Resource fields such as Ecology, Range Management, or related fields. A basic understanding of ArcGIS is an added bonus.
Communications and Marketing Internship
The marketing and communications team works to amplify PERC’s innovative research, policy proposals, and field projects. We are looking for a creative intern to help with multimedia content production, traditional media outreach, and database management. Key responsibilities may include drafting press releases, blog posts, and email campaigns; auditing social media channels and helping create content; and assisting with general database upkeep. A strong candidate should be familiar with the modern media landscape, have excellent writing skills, and be a creative thinker. The position is best suited for students studying in the fields of marketing, communications, journalism, or digital media. An understanding of Salesforce would be an added bonus.
Fundraising Internship
PERC’s fundraising team builds relationships and partnerships with our foundation and individual donors who empower us to advance our innovative conservation efforts. We’re seeking a development intern with a can-do mindset who wants to help us build long-lasting relationships with the people who make our work possible. Key responsibilities include donor research, thanking donors on the phone and in writing, preparing background documents, and related fundraising support activities. The ideal candidate will have strong attention to detail, a passion for people, and an interest in a career in development and conservation.
