Nick Hagerty
Nick Hagerty is a 2025 PERC Lone Mountain fellow, an environmental, resource, and agricultural economist, and an assistant professor at Montana State University. His research studies how people respond to environmental change and how policy design can help societies to better adapt, with a focus on water resources in the western United States and India. His research has been published in journals such as the Journal of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists, the Journal of Environmental Economics and Management, and the American Journal of Agricultural Economics. Before coming to Montana, Nick earned a Ph.D. in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an Sc.B. in physics from Brown University. He served as a research assistant for the White House Council of Economic Advisers, worked in India with the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab, and completed an S.V. Ciriacy-Wantrup Postdoctoral Fellowship at UC Berkeley.
